What to Expect
On the first day, you will discover Veuve Clicquot’s prestigious cellars, and will sample the inimitable flavour of that exceptional champagne: the cuvée Veuve Clicquot Brut Carte Jaune.
This house, founded in 1772, was led from 1805 by the young 27-year-old widow, Barbe Clicquot Ponsardin, one of the first businesswomen of the modern era, who lent her name to the house.
Lunch shall then follow at Le Jardin, a brasserie in which excellent, copious dishes are served in charming surroundings. You could even sample Reims’ famous champagne vinegar mustard.
A tour of Reims will allow you to visit, amongst other attractions, the formidable cathedral, one of the finest creations of French Gothic art, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Let yourselves be carried by your imagination while visiting the works at the Musée des Beaux-Arts. You’ll have plenty of time to wander the streets, and treat yourself to the culinary delicacies of the city, such as Ardennes ham or our biscuits roses.
The return to the hotel, L’Assiette Champenoise, will be a welcome moment of calm in luxurious settings. A moment to enjoy the bar or the terrace, leaving your spirit to wander.
As a marvellous treat to finish this first day, you will be highly tempted by Arnaud Lallement’s menus, and shall be able to enjoy the dishes of this three-starred chef.
For the second day, a gentle departure at 10 o’clock for the famous House Taittinger, founded in 1932 by Pierre Taittinger, the founding father of a dynasty. The innovative style of this champagne is strongly influenced by Chardonnay.
By visiting these cellars, you will journey through eighteen centuries of history and will take a moment to savour the mythical cuvée Comptes de Champagne 2007, and the rare and prestigious Comptes de Champagne Rosé 2006.
A “moment of grace”.
With your taste buds piqued, you will make a gourmet stop at the Café de la Paix, a brasserie famed for its seafood and fish, with a menu that varies from season to season: snails, asparagus, home-made foie gras… You’ll be able to make the most of the first rays of sunshine from the patio and the terrace, in this city of kings.
For the afternoon, you will visit the oldest Champagne house: Ruinart. Founded in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart, the nephew of Dom Ruinart, an intuitive and visionary Benedictine monk.
The house’s cuvées distinguish themselves with their elegance and subtlety.
You will taste this intense, prestigious champagne at the old chalk quarries.
